Youth Affairs Minister meets senior UN officials in New York

Rawan bint Najeeb tawfeeqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, held meetings with Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group, and Felipe Paullier, UN Assistant Secretary General for Youth Affairs, on the sidelines of the high level meeting commemorating the 30th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth. The event was convened during the high level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly under the theme “World Programme of Action for Youth at 30: Accelerating Global Progress Through Intergenerational Collaboration”.

 During her meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary General, the Minister discussed aspects of joint cooperation in youth development and capacity building, as well as means to benefit from UN expertise in supporting youth participation and enabling their contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. She also highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s “Hope Network” initiative, outlining its objectives to expand youth participation at the international level and presenting key achievements that have consolidated its standing as an active global youth platform.
 In her meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary General for Youth Affairs, the Minister emphasised Bahrain’s firm commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United Nations in the field of youth empowerment. She commended the outcomes of existing cooperation, which has produced qualitative programmes and initiatives that have enhanced the skills of Bahraini youth, equipping them with the knowledge and capacities needed for the future, and reinforcing their role as active partners in national and international development. The two sides also discussed means to broaden cooperation to expand youth oriented initiatives and reviewed upcoming programmes within the Hope Network to increase its international impact.
 UN officials commended Bahrain’s efforts in supporting and empowering youth, noting its innovative initiatives and qualitative projects, as well as the growing international success and recognition of the Hope Network, which continues to enhance its positive impact on youth worldwide in line with Bahrain’s aspirations and the UN’s vision for empowering younger generations.
