Youth Minister highlights youth engagement in environmental sustainability, support for Bahrain Mangroves initiative
Rawan bint Najeeb tawfeeqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, emphasised that environmental and climate action is a priority among young people in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in line with growing global attention to sustainability.
She emphasised the importance of continuing to enhance coordination among relevant entities to support youth led environmental initiatives in a manner that aligns with the visions of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
This came in her remarks marking the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, observed annually on July 26.
The minister highlighted the Youth Affairs Ministry’s focus on empowering youth as key partners in environmental efforts by supporting green innovation projects, sustainable agriculture programmes, and afforestation campaigns. She commended the Bahrain Mangroves initiative, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, as a national model of environmental sustainability and a reflection of Bahrain’s commitment to protecting ecosystems and addressing climate challenges through raising awareness of sustainable development among future generations.
tawfeeqi said the Bahrain Mangroves initiative serves as an inspiration for Bahraini youth to adopt environmentally responsible practices and launch youth led projects that contribute meaningfully to national and global climate goals.
She reiterated the ministry’s full support for this national initiative and its commitment to enhancing youth participation through specialised programmes delivered by the Bahrain Science Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to environmental and educational activities included in the 2030 Youth City programme. These initiatives, she noted, aim to raise environmental awareness, foster scientific skills, and encourage innovation and active youth involvement in climate action.
The minister commended the positive engagement of Bahraini youth with the Bahrain Mangroves initiative and other environmental and climate programmes, highlighting that participation in such efforts reflects a strong sense of national responsibility and a shared commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future.
